Brendan Rodgers is set to offer Fabio Borini to Lazio along with £8 million in order to tempt their midfielder Ogenyi Onazi to Anfield.

Onazi was reportedly courted by the Reds in the summer before Rodgers opted for Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can. But, he is ready to go back in for his man as he attempts to offload some of the Merseyside club’s lacklustre strikers.

Borini, who nearly completed a switch to Sunderland this summer, has found first team opportunities limited at the club this term, making just six league appearances. A move may suit both parties, as the 23 year-old looks to make more of what has been a bright start to his career.

Onazi would slot into the side and could act as Steven Gerrard’s replacement, as the ageing Englishman sees his role in the starting eleven reduced. The 22 year-old has made steady progress in the Serie A and Rodgers looks set to act.

With Rodgers set to cut his losses on his misfiring squad, Onazi seems to be Rodger’s answer to what has been a dismal start to their league campaign.
