29 year old Daniel Agger who only made 23 appearances for Liverpool last season looks set to depart Anfield after Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that he has been offered to Barcelona.
The defender who was quoted in May as saying he is unsure on his future as he feels that Rodgers doesn’t really rate him. It has recently come to light that the defenders future is likely to lie elsewhere as Rodgers offered the defender to Barcelona.
Rodgers who wants to sell the centre back in order to free up funds to secure the signature of Southampton centre back Dejan Lovren. Lovren who be the third player to join Liverpool from Southampton this summer if he was to secure a switch to Anfield after Rodgers tied up deals for Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.
Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona had, ‘recieved the proposal (three months ago), assesed the player’s technical level but ended up rejecting it.’ This proposal had no impact on the future of Luis Suarez who looks set for a move to the Nou Camp after negotiations took place between Ian Ayre and a delegation from Barcelona in London this past week.
Barcelona who need to acquire a replacement for the retired Carlos Puyol decided not to take up Liverpool’s proposal. Whereas Liverpool are keen to bolster their defence options with Lovren being Rodger’s number one target.
