Brendan Rodgers has said that the club will not stand in Steven Gerrard’s way should he seek a move away from Anfield at the end of his current contract.
A reduced role in the team this year may have caused Gerrard to consider moving abroad to finish his career.
When asked about a potential pre-contract move for his captain, Rodgers has been quoted as saying: ‘I have got a great relationship and communication with Steven so we understand exactly the position.
‘I think he has earned that respect if he does [talk to anyone].’
New York Red Bulls are reportedly circling should Gerrard decide to leave, having lost Thierry Henry after his retirement to become a pundit.
The end of the season could spell the end of a 25 year relationship between the Reds and Gerrard and in doing so, could spell the end of an era.
