According to reports from Calciomercato, AS Roma are keen in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl. Weigl has fallen down the pecking order this season, having made only 7 appearances for Dortmund this season. The presence of Axel Witsel in Borussia Dortmund has seen the 23-year old warm the bench more often.
Weigl joined Dortmund from 1860 Munich in 2015 and made 126 appearances in his first three seasons combined. However, due to the lack of game time this season, Weigl may prefer a move away from Dortmund. AS Roma have reportedly contacted Borussia Dortmund about a move for Weigl.
Roma currently have two pretty fine defensive midfield options in skipper Daniele de Rossi and Steven Nzonzi. The addition of Weigl to their squad could be beneficial for them in the longer run as de Rossi is already 35.
Either way, the addition of Weigl to Roma’s squad will be an asset for the club.
