According to reports, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich refused to allow a group of four older experienced players into Stamford Bridge
Despite manager Antonio Conte keen to sign them this summer, the Chelsea owner stopped transfers of Juventus pair Leonardo Bonucci, Claudio Marchisio, Swansea star Fernando Llorente and Inter’s Antonio Candreva who were on the wrong side of 30.
Reports claim Conte did want the players as he had worked with all of them before and felt Chelsea needed much more experience in his squad in order to defend their Premier League title.
Apparently, Abramovich wants Conte and his staff to sign younger players. Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko (23), Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata (24) , Torino’s Davide Zappacosta (25), and Roma’s Antonio Rudiger (24), are all 25 or younger than that, while their oldest signing Willy Caballero (35) was sanctioned on a free transfer.
