Romelu Lukaku is ready to step up on the big stage as Manchester United host Juventus in the Champions League.

This is probably the biggest game in Lukaku’s club career since his move from Everton in the summer of 2017. United didn’t have much luck last season as they crashed out from the last 16 of the Champions League following a shambolic defeat to Sevilla.

The 25 year old hasn’t had much taste of the glittering competition but has vowed to make it count against the Italian champions. The Belgian international who is expected to spearhead the attacking lineup said, “It’s why I signed for this club.

“I want to play in a magnificent stadium in front of these fans. I dreamed of it as a kid and now is my opportunity.

“It’s a good challenge to see where I’m at and also where the team is – how we perform against the top defence in Europe right now.”

Lukaku also revealed he is a big admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo who will be seen in a Juventus jersey at the Old Trafford for the first time. “I’m 25 and grew up watching him [Ronaldo] play and improve and transform to the player he is.

“So, for players of my generation and younger, we should look up to that and see what hard work can bring you.

“I watched the game the last time when he came here [with Real Madrid in 2013]. He was really received like a legend is supposed to be.”
