The striker is set to become the highest paid player at the club – but this new deal includes a release clause

Romelu Lukaku is set to pen a new deal with Everton which will make him the highest-paid player in the history of the club – but this deal will also reportedly include a release clause.

This clause means that if any top team decide to make a move for him (and Lukaku fancies the move) then the Toffees cannot stand in his way if he wants to move to that team.

It’s bad news for Everton fans, who will be hoping he continues to ply his trade for the club long into the future. If no top team approach him about signing him, then this new deal will see him stay at Goodison Park until 2022.

Good form

But, if a team made a move in the summer, then this new contract would be practically worthless, as he would be free to leave anyway.

This new deal will also see the 23-year old earn ÂŁ110,000 a week, which will make him not just the highest paid player at the club right now but in the history of the club in general.

The striker has been in good form for the club this season so far, banging in 19 goals in 28 games in all competitions for the club. It’s this form that has helped Everton to 7th place in the Premier League table.

The club are also just six points off the top five and eight points off the top four.
