Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he was introduced to the Manchester United players by Sir Alex Ferguson just minutes after his stellar display which sealed his transfer move from Sporting Lisbon.

The Red Devils signed Ronaldo as an 18-year-old ‘wonderkid’ for just £12.2million in the summer of 2003 after the players could not believe the impressive performance that he put in against them in a pre-season friendly.

Ronaldo has recently admitted that United legend Ferguson was not discrete in the slightest about signing the Portugal captain after the match finished.

“The first game that I played against Manchester United was an unbelievable game. It was the perfect night, the perfect night,” Ronaldo said while promoting his Nike CR7 Chapter 3 boots.

“After the game some of my team-mates said: ‘Listen, you’re going to go to Manchester, trust me!’

“Sir Alex Ferguson was there, and [they said] he wants to speak with you.

“I go to the dressing room, he introduced me to the players.

“For me, I was a little bit shy.

“And Sir Alex Ferguson said to me ‘Listen, I want you now.

“Everything came so fast and two days after I speak to the coach and they take me to England and I was in Manchester and I signed.”
