Ronaldo found guilty with tax charges

Juventusand Portuguese star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been found guilty with tax charges and is given a two year prison sentence. However the player will not have to stay in jail but indeed has to pay a heavy fine.

Reports suggest that the player will accept a two year prison sentence and a fine worth  €19 million (£16.9m/$22.15m) with the tax authority.

The player was found guilty with 4 charges of  tax evasion between 2011 and 2014 when the player was a part of the Spanish giants Real Madrid. The player is now a part of  the Italian club Juventus .

Initially the player denied the chargesm He wrote, “”Don’t try to spoil the beautiful moment I’m living through with fake news,” and  “I do things the right way and I will continue to do so.” on his instagram wall.

But the player was later found guilty.

Ronaldo is a first time offernder of the tax charges by the Spanish Government, so he wont have to go behind the bars. Spanish Law says that a player has to go behind the bars when the mistake is repeated.

The player will have to present himself before Madrid’s Pozuelo de Alarcon court for the final verdict.

Even Ronaldo’s prime rival, Lionel Messi was also sentenced with similar charges when he and his father had to be sentenced for 21 and 15 months in prison respectively  because of tax frauds. Messi was then discharged from tax frauds when they paid additional fines.

There are other players as well with similar fraud scenarios such as Alexis Sanchez and Javier Mascherano.
