Following a frankly disastrous ten months in charge of Manchester United, David Moyes was sacked last Tuesday. However, one success the Scot managed during his time was to keep United star Wayne Rooney at the club following the striker’s fallout with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

United showed their faith in Rooney and offered him a new deal of ÂŁ300,000 a week and the striker repaid the faith with a wonderful string of performances, helping his side through a difficult period of games.

Rooney remained grateful to Moyes for believing in him, right to the end and following the news that the 51 year-old had been sacked, the England striker went to Moyes’ office to say final goodbyes, only to find it had all been cleared out reports The Sunday People.

He then phoned his former boss to comiserate and thank him for all his hard work and faith, a touching moment for a manager who has endured much scrutiny and criticism in recent weeks.

Rooney is also believed to have been upset at the apparent joy the news brought to the rest of the players.
