Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri claimed that the England international had been close to a move to Stamford Bridge.
The two clubs agreed a ÂŁ35million fee, with Barkley eager to move on and start a new challenge this season.
However, Moshiri insists after his medical Barkley changed his mind, but the lifelong Evertonian has denied such claims.
After days of confusion, Barkley took to Twitter to reveal his side of the story.
He tweeted: “Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point.
“I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit.”
