Chelsea announce new deal for youngster
Chelsea Football Club have announced that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed a new long-term deal.
The powerhouse midfielder is on the fringes of the first-team, but after they sold Ramires in January to the Chinese Super League, his importance to the first-team enhanced.
Loftus-Cheek is currently behind Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel in the pecking order, but the club see him as a pivotal part of the future.
The 20-year-old has signed the new contract which will keep him at the club until 2021.
After signing the deal, Loftus-Cheek spoke to the official website and revealed his delight at penning the new deal.
Statement
He said: ‘I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Chelsea and my focus is on working hard in training every day in order to push on and establish myself in the team. It really means a lot because this shows the club believe in me so I’m really happy.
‘The club have done so much for me since I started here as an Under-8 and now I want to repay the faith they’ve shown in me with my performances on the pitch.’
