Former Chelsea star Dennis Wise recommends Loftus-Cheek to continue his development under Sarri

Former Chelsea star Dennis Wise believes that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has taken his game to a new level under the tutelage of Maurizio Sarri and has recommended the youngster not to move out on loan in January.

Loftus -Cheek found regular minutes hard to come by in the earlier stages of the season with Sarri preferring Mateo Kovacic due to his experience. However, the youngster has earned a more substantial role in the squad after scoring 6 goals across all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old spent time on loan at Crystal Palace last season and Gareth Southgate found his performances convincing enough to take him to the World Cup. The highlight of Loftus-Cheek’s performance this season has to be the hat-trick against BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

When asked whether Loftus-Cheek should move out on loan, Wise replied, ” He [Sarri] has played him a number of times. He’s got competition for places but why would Loftus-Cheek want to go on loan? ”

“I’ll pick Crystal Palace just because he went there on loan. Why would you want to go there on loan, to a team where you’ll play a lot of games but you’ll be in a battle down the bottom when you can play in a team full of top international players, fighting to win trophies and trying to get in the Champions League?

“I think he’s improved so much. This is a process for him and I think it’s important he stays at Chelsea and he fights. He’s very close to being one of the players who could take one of those shirts and stay in there and he has to carry that on until the end of the season.

With Sarri showing an inclination to field Loftus-Cheek on a more regular basis in recent weeks, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the youngster.
