RVP criticises Arsenal’s mentality

Robin van Persie has said that Sir Alex Ferguson installed a must win philosophy around Manchester United, whereas at Arsenal the club merely “wanted” to win trophies.

Van Persie’s comments were mentioned in Rio Ferdinand’s new autobiography, where Ferdinand quotes a conversation he had with the Dutchman.

Ferdinand says in his book “Robin loved the winning mind state that Fergie had created. He told me that at Arsenal you wanted to win, but at United you had to win.”

The striker helped United to the title in his first season, scoring 26 Premier League goals. It would turn out to be Ferguson’s final year as manager at Old Trafford.

Van Persie has struggled to recapture that sensational form from 2012/13, scoring just 12 in an injury hit last campaign and he hasn’t hit the ground running so far this season either.

Louis van Gaal will hope that van Persie can do his talking on the pitch in the coming weeks, alongside Radamel Falcao. United face a tough run of Premier League matches facing Chelsea, neighbours City and Arsenal in the next five games.
