Sadio Mane has heaped praises on Virgil van Dijk insisting the big Dutch man has been a great influence for Liverpool this season.
Van Dijk’s presence in the Reds backline has been immense as the 27 year old has been an ever present in front of the opposition attack. Lots of eyebrows raised when Liverpool agreed to pay a whopping £75m to Southampton to acquire his services.
The former Celtic defender took a bit time to settle into the system and since then has been rock solid for the League leaders. In 18 matches Klopp’s side conceded just 7 goals and the credit should be given to the gigantic defender.
Not only defending, van Dijk has also contributed with goals and netted the winner in their 2-0 victory over Wolves in the Premier League.
Mane said, “It’s been a big, big impact. We’ve all seen it. Of course at the time he signed people were thinking that the club had overpaid for Virgil.
“But since then everyone has forgotten about the fee because his form has been so good.
“He’s done such a great job for us back there. I am so happy to have him as a team-mate.
“He’s one of the leaders. You can see it in every single game. He has proved he’s one of the best defenders in the world.”
