Salomon Rondon believes Rafa Benitez deserves all the credit for his form for Newcastle United this term.
Rondon has been very productive for the Magpies and has played a pivotal role in retaining their Premier League status for one more season. The Venezuelan forward arrived from West Bromwich Albion on a season long loan and has netted 10 times in the top flight and has set up another seven goals so far.
Benitez was pretty adamant in sanctioning the move for the 29 year old and now is bearing all the fruits for his role in the transfer. This is the first time Rondon has reached the double figure in goals bit it remains to be seen whether he stays at the St James Park or returns to the Hawthorns where he also does have the chance to play Premier League football should the Baggies win the Championship Playoffs.
Rondon said, “I have scored 10 league goals this season now and I am really happy for that.
“When I was at West Brom, it was a difficult situation. When we went down [last season], I scored nine goals.
“But, a striker like me, I need players around me like Ayoze, Almiron, Atsu, Muto – players that try to play the ball to my feet so I can get the ball and try to score. I am proud and really happy.
“It not the best [goal-scoring season] because when I was in Spain [at Malaga] I scored 14 goals. But I am happy. I try to score goals. Sometimes you miss, but I can play an assist.
“I always try to do my best. I think is the reason Rafa brought me – to try and help the team, and try to score goals.”
