West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he has no plans in rushing back striker Andy Carroll, despite the club not having a regular striker at their disposal.

The Hammers have been deploying a 4-6-0 formation in recent weeks due to the injury to the former-Liverpool man as Allardyce has refused the opportunity to play Carlton Cole or Modibo Maiga.

Carrol, who completed his permanent move to Upton Park in the Summer, is yet to feature so far this season due to an ankle injury, but he is ready to return to first-team training this week, much to the delight of Allardyce.

However, the West Ham boss is not prepared to rush the striker back into first-team action right away.

“It’s been a long wait to get him to where he is now and I need to be as patient again because he hasn’t done any pre-season and hasn’t kicked a ball since May,” said Allardyce.

“It’s my job and responsibility to say ‘you’re not ready, hard luck. We’ll tell you when you’re ready, you won’t tell us, and we’ll do that for your own benefit and protection’.

“We want him back, but we want him playing for longevity and to complete the season without picking up any more injuries.”
