Spaniard was linked with a move back to La Liga
Arsenal star Santi Cazorla has confirmed that he never planned on leaving the club over the summer despite reported interest from La Liga.
According to numerous reports, Diego Simeone wanted to bring Cazorla to Atletico Madrid but couldn’t persuade Arsene Wenger to sell the influential midfielder.
However, the 30-year-old has revealed in a recent interview that he was never planning on leaving the Emirates Stadium because he is content with life in North London.
Cazorla Never Wanted Out
‘I never said I wanted to return to Spain,’ the 30-year-old told the IBTimes.
‘Those things just came from the press. I don’t understand why they publish that story because I have always been happy at the club.
‘I feel very valued here and the club value me even more with a new contract. I never considered leaving Arsenal.’
Cazorla has developed a new role in the Arsenal squad as a deep-lying play-maker alongside defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin and he’s relishing in his new role.
