Maurizio Sarri says that Chelsea should have ‘won better’ against Brighton

Chelsea continued their impressive run in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Sunday. Eden Hazard set up Pedro for the opener before the Belgian outpaced three defenders and guided the ball past Matt Ryan to make it 2-0 for the Blues before the interval.

Chelsea were a bit complacent in the second half and Brighton started to throw caution to the winds with Florin Andone coming off the bench. The Seagulls pulled one back through Solly March to set up a tense finish.

However, the Blues managed to hold on to their advantage and claimed all three points, remaining 4th in the standings.

The 2-1 win did not go down well with perfectionist Maurizio Sarri who was not impressed by his team’s second-half performance. Here is what the manager had to say about the result:-

Sarri said, “I think that we could have won better. We played very well for 60 minutes. We conceded a goal when we were in full control. In my mind it was clear in that moment that we had to suffer in the box, we are not a physical team. I tried with the substitutions to have more of a physical presence.”

He further went on to add, ” “When we have the feeling to be in control of the match it is dangerous for ourselves. The first situation in our box in 30 minutes, I think we were a bit unlucky. When we are sure to be in control of the match. Complacency? I don’t know.”
