Big wins from North London duo, while Manchester United go top

With a minimum of three-goals-a-game in yesterday’s eight Premier League matches, it was certainly a brilliant day of football as 35 goals were netted.

The day started with a lunch-time kick-off at White Hart Lane as Tottenham Hotspur tried to move on from their North London derby defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday night in the Capital One Cup.

Facing them was league-leaders at the time Manchester City, and after they took a 1-0 lead through Kevin De Bruyne, it looked like they were going to bounce back from their shock home defeat to West Ham United the weekend before.

However, goals from Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela gave Mauricio Pochettino‘s men an emphatic 4-1 victory.

If Spurs were to score four, their local-rivals would want to out-do them and that’s what Arsenal did when they hit Leicester City for five.

3pm Kick-Offs

The Foxes were unbeaten before yesterday’s 3pm kick-off, but goals from Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and an Alexis Sanchez hat-trick gave Arsene Wenger‘s men a 5-2 win. Jamie Vardy netting both Leicester‘s goals.

Elsewhere at 3pm, Manchester United took City‘s top-spot with a comfortable 3-0 win over bottom-side Sunderland. Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata all scoring their first Premier League goals of the season.

Under-fire boss Brendan Rodgers breathed a sigh of relief as his Liverpool side won 3-2 against Aston Villa. The highlight of the game was a goalscoring return for Daniel Sturridge, who netted a brace.

There were also wins for Southampton and Stoke City, who saw off Swansea City and AFC Bournemouth respectively on home turf, while West Ham United drew 2-2 at Upton Park against Norwich City.

Evening Game

The late kick-off saw Chelsea travel to bogey ground St James’ Park to face winless Newcastle United.

Goals from Ayoze Perez and Georginio Wijnaldum gave Newcastle a 2-0 lead going into the final half-hour, but Brazilian duo Ramires and Willian snatched a point for Jose Mourinho‘s men with goals in the 79th and 86th minute.
