Lionel Scaloni has said that Lionel Messi is set to hold talks with the Argentine manager over his return to the national side.
The talismanic forward has not played for the Albiceleste since their quarterfinal loss in the World Cup against France.
Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni has said that he is set to hold talks with talismanic forward Lionel Messi regarding his return to the national team. The player has not made any appearances for the Albiceleste since they crashed out in the World Cup 2018 quarterfinal stage after losing out to eventual champions France.
Reportedly, the Barcelona star has not given any indication about making a return to the national team as they start their preparations for the Copa America for the next year.
The Argentine gaffer, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli after the disappointment in the World Cup, said, “I do not talk very often with Messi, but we have a relationship.”
The two met during the Copa Libertadores final that was held in Madrid and Scaloni has hinted that there might be further between the two Lionels in the near future.
He said, “We are going to try for him to join us in 2019, we have pending talks and we are optimistic that it will be positive. For us it is something important. Any coach would like to coach him, myself more than any.”
