Arsenal’s pursuit of the player looks to be over
Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has agreed a deal with Manchester United, according to L’Equipe.
However the transfer is not done, with United not having agreed on a transfer fee with the Saints.
The South Coast club are understood to want £21 million for the France international, with negotiations between the clubs currently ongoing.
Schneiderlin could be announced as a Manchester United player as early as Wednesday next week, when the transfer window opens.
He could be earning £120,000 a-week at Old Trafford
The 25 year old would become United’s second summer signing, after the capture of Memphis Depay for £25 million.
For a long time Arsenal looked to be the front runners to sign Schneiderlin, with reports suggesting he would sign for the Gunners.
Bookmakers even slashed prices on the transfer, sure that Arsene Wenger would snap up his fellow Frenchman, but it now looks like United have beaten them to it.
Louis van Gaal is after a top central midfielder to accompany Ander Herrera, with Michael Carrick nearing the end of his career.
Schneiderlin wanted to leave Southampton last summer during the club’s mass transfer exit, but stayed and made 25 Premier League appearances last season, helping the club to qualify for the Europa League.
The Red Devils’ are still set to continue their pursuit of German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich.
