Saints legend reckons midfielder would be better off at Old Trafford

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier believes current star Morgan Schneiderlin should choose Manchester United over Arsenal this Summer.

The Frenchman is widely expected to leave the St Marys Stadium over the Summer after failing to get a move away this time last year, and it’s reported that United and Arsenal are the two main contenders.

Schneiderlin’s Future

Schneiderlin asked to leave the club last year, but Ronald Koeman blocked the transfer and forced the midfielder to stay put, frustrating the French international in the process.

However, he stayed at the club and impressed throughout the 2014/2015 campaign, helping The Saints finish seventh in the Premier League.

Despite the good season under Koeman, Schneiderlin still wants out as he wants Champions League football, and he’s a transfer target of both United and Arsenal.

When asked about the future of the midfielder, ex-Saints star Matt Le Tissier believes the Frenchman should choose Old Trafford over the Emirates Stadium.

Saints Legend Speaks

“He can play for a top four team comfortably. He is very accomplished in that [defensive midfield] position,” Le Tissier told talkSPORT.

“I think he was 17, 18 when he came across [to England] and watching him play in League One you were thinking he shouldn’t be playing in that division.

“The times we have stepped up, he has always looked better than who he is playing against and with. As our team has improved, he hasn’t looked out of place in any of the places he has performed.

“Out of the top four clubs, I think Manchester United are more in need of him than Arsenal.

“Arsenal have got a lot of midfield players. Would he be that much better than what they have already got?

“Possibly a little bit better, yes, but in terms of needing somebody in that position and being light in that position, I think Manchester United are more in need of him than Arsenal are.”
