Selling Suarez would be stupid, blasts former defender

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that if the club were to eventually sell striker Luis Suarez, it would make the whole legacy of Liverpool look stupid.

The owner of the club, John W Henry, recently released a statement revealing that he has no intentions to sell their star-asset to anyone in European football, especially not a rival as close as Arsenal, but his words have fallen on death ears with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger not willing to give up the fight as he hunts for a new striker to lead his attack for the new season.

Arsenal have already had two bids rejected for the Uruguayan, one which was ÂŁ30million and another which was ÂŁ40,000,001, but Wenger is still feeling confident that he can sign his man before the window slams shut in just under three weeks time.

The relationship between Suarez and Liverpool is all-but over, but the club officials are still adamant on keeping the striker even though he has made it clear that he doesn’t want to stay and that he doesn’t think he should apologise to the club, even though that is what Brendan Rodgers wants.

Former defender, who has recently retired, Jamie Carragher, believes the club would look stupid if they eventually chose to sell Luis Suarez.

“I expect him to stay at Liverpool now,” he said.

“I think if you come out as owner and say that, and then something happens, you make yourself look stupid. I’m glad he has done it and I think everyone in football should be glad he has done it. It is maybe a message for players.

“I trained with him once this summer and you are talking about probably one of the best trainers I have ever seen. I’ve only seen him once. God knows what he has been like all pre-season, but he hasn’t been his normal self.”

“He’s the best player. It probably all affects supporters more, who absolutely love the club. Players come and go at different times; we are all probably selfish, we think about our own situation.

“I think a lot of them will be probably focused on getting themselves ready for the start of the league. I’m sure they will want Luis to stay because it gives them more chance of being successful.”

John Henry once said in a statement that the club will never sell Fernando Torres to a close rival, but just three months after that, he sold the Spaniard to Chelsea for ÂŁ50million.
