Controversial figure set for fifth term

Sepp Blatter has won the FIFA election after his only challenge withdrew after the first round of voting.

Prince Ali bin al-Hussein was the man running against Blatter, who was running for his fifth term in charge, but after being drastically behind after the first voting, he decided to withdraw before the second round.

During the first round, Blatter received 133 votes, whilst Prince Ali only managed to pick up 73. The voting then went to a second round after 140 votes was needed for a first-round victory.

Although they officially had to go to a second round of voting, it was very likely that Blatter was set to win the election yet again, unless several voters had a sudden change of heart.

However, the second round never took place after Prince Ali withdrew from the election, meaning Blatter becomes re-elected.

Prince Ali Statement

Prince Ali has addressed those in attendance with the following brief statement. “It has been a wonderful journey. I want to thank all those brave enough to support me, but I will be withdrawing from the race. I wish you all the best of luck for the future.”

Attentions then turned to Blatter who was announced onto the stage to make his victory speech. Despite being booed onto the stage, Blatter looked unfazed and made the following speech.

Blatter Winning Speech

“First of all I would like to give compliments and express gratitude to Prince Ali. Because he was a challenger and he has obtained a very good result.

“He could have said ‘no, let’s go further and perhaps I would have received more votes’.

“But I thank you for accepting me for the next four years. I will be in command of this boat called Fifa and we will bring it back to shore.”
