SERGIO BUSQUETS: Pep Guardiola could convince the midfielder to join him at Man City

The Barcelona midfielder, Sergio Busquets, has admitted that Pep Guardiola could convince him to depart the Nou Camp – in favour of a move to Manchester City in the summer.

Busquets is yet to have his deal with the Spanish side renewed, amid suggestions that the 27-year-old could depart within the next six-months, seeing that both City, along with Paris Saint-Germain, are interested in acquiring his services.

He had previously been promised an improved deal at the Catalan outfit, but the hierarchy within the boardroom can’t afford to offer him a significant pay-rise, as well as handing raises to both Lionel Messi and Neymar – adding further fuel to the fire that he could make the move to re-unite with Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola was confirmed as the man to replace outgoing manager, Manuel Pellegrini last week, he will begin his new position on 30th June, when his contract at German Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich, expires.

And Busquets hinted at a move to the Citizens, when he was quoted as to saying his compatriot is the only manager who would make him consider to leave Barcelona.

The pair worked together for four-years at Barcelona, winning domestic and European doubles season after season, in a fruitful period.

In an interview with ESPN, Busquets said: “I’ve always said that there are only two people that can change my decision to be here. One is my wife, who right now is here and is a Barcelona fan, so I don’t think there is going to be a problem on a personal level.”

“On a sporting level the other person would be Guardiola.

“It’s clear that I owe Guardiola a lot and for me to work with him would be an honour.”

He then attempted to quieten speculation regarding his future, by doubting that Guardiola would make a move for him.

Busquets continued: “He knows that this is my club and his too, and that the best for me and the club is that I’m here and I don’t think he’s going to ask for me.”

Should Busquets move to the Etihad, it is likely to bring Yaya Toure’s six-year spell at the sky blues to an abrupt end.

The 32-year-old has been reportedly linked with a mega money move to the Chinese Super League, where the Ivorian could earn ÂŁ30m a year.
