Coutinho, who has been in superb form recently for Liverpool, had been involved in training with the already depleted Liverpool squad, but then was not among the party that left the Airport this afternoon.

Liverpool hold a lead from the first leg, albeit only a one goal advantage.

It is a swift turnover for the squad as they will be travelling back straight after the match, due to arrive back at John Lennon International Airport at around 3am on Friday morning, no more than 60 hours before the clash wiith Manchester City on Sunday.

The other six missing on the flight were Jordan Henderson (ankle), Glen Johnson (illness), Mamadou Sakho (hip), Steven Gerrard (hamstring), Lucas (thigh) and Lazar Markovic, who is serving the second game of his four match ban.

The several absentees leaves Rodgers with his squad options highly restricted, where it is thought Emre Can move in to midfield to partner Joe Allen, leaving a back three consisting of Toure, Skrtel and Lovren.

The Premier League side have brought along youngsters Jordan Williams, Jordan Lussey, Jerome Sinclair, Cameron Brannagan and Ryan Fulton who last played for the U19s in a defeat to Benfica on Tuesday.
