Shaqiri: Why I snubbed Premier League

The Xherdan Shaqiri transfer saga is over as the Swiss winger penned a loan deal at Inter Milan.

Shaqiri will move to the San Siro on a six-month loan deal until the end of the season, when Internazionale will have an option to sign him permanently.

He has finally opened up to why he chose Serie A over the Premier League and also why he snubbed interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and, surprisingly, Stoke City.

The 23-year old has expressed that the challenge of taking Inter from 11th place in the table to qualify for next season’s Champions League was one he relishes.

He also expressed working under Roberto Mancini’s guidance was attractive and a conversation with fellow loanee Lukas Podolski helped make up his mind.

Shaqiri said “Coach Roberto Mancini called me, he wanted me very strognly. I’m happy to be working with him.”

He added “As for Bayern, I said goodbye to my former teammates and with the club everything is clear.”

Shaqiri scored 11 goals in 52 Bundesliga appearances at Bayern Munich.
