The former Blues striker has hinted at a return to Stamford Bridge

Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko has hinted that he would like to return to Stamford Bridge as the Blues’ manager in the future.

The 39-year-old, who is now the assistant coach for the Ukraine national team, didn’t have the impact they, and himself, expected at the Bridge, during his playing career. But he is still keen to return to the club, one day.

“Life is like that. You never know. I have a very good relationship with the club, I loved the fans. I will try and be a manager in the future.” Shevchenko is quoted to have said.

The news has come not long after Italy boss Antonio Conte put pen to paper, confirming he will join Chelsea on a three-year deal, after guiding his national team at the European Championships this summer.

Abramovich keen for Ukranian’s return

And while the Ukraine international is rated by some as Chelsea’s biggest flop signing, owner Roman Abramovich was reportedly keen to bring the former striker back to the club in December, in a director’s role.

Shevchenko joined the Blues in 2006, making 47 Premier League appearances, having scored on his debut against Liverpool in the Community Shield, before being loaned back to AC Milan in 2008 after an underwhelming spell at the Bridge.

And following his loan spell in Italy, he went on to make only four more league appearances for the Blues, before leaving for boyhood club Dyanmo Kyiv in 2009, having joined Chelsea for £30.8 million.
