Shinji Kagawa ‘relieved’ to leave United

Borussia Dortmund’s Sebastian Kehl has claimed that new team-mate Shinji Kagawa is hugely relieved to have left Man United. The midfielder left Dortmund for Old Trafford back in 2012, after a tremendous season in the Bundesliga.

However, the Japanese international struggled to make an impact for the Red Devils and when David Moyes was put in charge, he fell even more out of favour. Things didn’t improve under Louis Van Gaal and he was finally allowed to leave the club this summer, as he returned to Dortmund.

Kehl believes that the 25-year old can once again excel for the German giants, now that he is back in a more supportive environment. He told Sport Bild: “You could see that it was a huge relief for Shinji Kagawa [to have left Manchester United for Dortmund].

“It was not an easy situation for him at Manchester in the past few weeks. And then there were some comments from his coach that prompted him to return to Dortmund. He gets a lot of faith here.

“Everything that he’s been missing in the past few months, he’ll get back here again.”

As the new season continues, we’ll be able to see whether Kagawa can indeed re-find his form and make Man United rue the day they sold him, or whether he’ll continue to under-perform.
