Premier League team of the week 3

Our combined XI from game week three of the Premier League. After game week three of the 2015/16 Premier League season, SillySeason have again put together their team of the week.

The team includes the best performers from the weekend fixtures, so this team will exclude any Arsenal or Liverpool players as they meet tonight for Monday Night Football.

Here are the players who have impressed us the most this weekend:

Goalkeeper – Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea

The Belgian international may have conceded two goals, but he made an extremely important contribution which meant his team collected all three points against West Bromwich Albion.

Despite Asmir Begovic putting in a solid performance against Manchester City, Courtois regained his place in the Chelsea starting lineup after serving his suspension.

He delivered the goods by saving a James Morrison penalty; this ensured Chelsea would go on to win 3-2 at the Hawthorns.

Right-back – Russell Martin – Norwich City

Russell-Martin

The Canaries captain scored his second goal in as many games as Norwich drew 1-1 at home to Stoke City.

The Scotsman looks as if he could be a key player for the recently promoted side this season. He has Premier League experience after playing for Norwich the last time they were in the top flight.

Martin is also a leader and has already shown he can chip in with some important goals from set pieces.

Centre-back – Vincent Kompany – Manchester City

The only remaining player from game week two’s team of the week, the City captain has started this campaign like a man possessed and looks like the defender he was when his club won the Premier league title in 2012.

The Belgian international cleared a Gareth Barry header off the line which would have leveled up the scores at Goodison Park. Instead last year’s runners-up kept a third clean sheet in as many games and defeated Everton 2-0 on Super Sunday.

Centre-back – Scott Dann – Crystal Palace

Another dominant display by the big centre-half, as he helped his side to a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa.

Dann gave Palace the lead at Selhurst Park with a header from a Jason Puncheon corner, before doing his duties in defence and preventing a Villa equaliser with some last ditch late defending.

Left-back – Aleksandar Kolarov – Manchester City

The Serbian full-back put in a tireless performance which helped City to a 2-0 win over Everton.

He seems to have built a very solid understanding with new signing Raheem Sterling, as he is constantly on the overlap supporting his winger.

Sterling even assisted Kolarov as he beat Tim Howard at his near post to put City 1-0 up.

Central midfielder – James Morrison – West Bromwich Albion

The Baggies versatile midfielder showed his goalscoring threat from midfield after he grabbed an excellent brace against Chelsea.

He was unlucky not to have scored a hat-trick and earn his side a point; Thibaut Courtois saved his penalty as previously mentioned.

Right winger – Riyad Mahrez – Leicester City

The mercurial Leicester winger was tipped to have a big season by SillySeason; and he has continued his good form by grabbing his fourth goal in three Premier League outings.

He scored the equaliser for Leicester as they drew 1-1 at home to Tottenham Hotspur and made sure Claudio Ranieri maintained his unbeaten start as the Foxes boss.

Left winger – Callum McManaman – West Bromwich Albion

The tricky winger looked to be back at his best as he gave the Chelsea defence an awkward time.

His unpredictable running style had one of the best defenders in the league, Branislav Ivanovic, twisting and turning. McManaman even delivered the pin-point cross that set-up James Morrison‘s second goal.

He was showing the kind of form he was producing back in his Wigan Athletic days. The 24-year old was also unlucky to not bag the equaliser against Chelsea, as his shot trickled agonisingly past the far post.

Attacking midfielder – Pedro – Chelsea

The ex-Barcelona man showed Manchester United exactly what they missed out on as he delivered a stunning debut for his new club.

The Spanish international forward scored a goal, assisted Diego Costa and won Man of the Match as he inspired his teammates to push for a hard fought 3-2 win at West Brom.

Centre forward – Callum Wilson – Bournemouth

Arguably the stand-out performer of the weekend, Wilson bagged a hat-trick at Upton Park as Bournemouth sealed a 4-3 win against West Ham United.

It was Bournemouth’s first ever Premier League victory, as they open their account and get their season well and truly underway.

Centre forward – Bafetimbi Gomis – Swansea City

The big striker showed once again he is an adequate replacement for Wilfried Bony; he helped Swansea maintain their unbeaten start to the season by scoring in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland.

This means the French international now has three goals in as many Premier League so far this season and looks to be a key player for the Swans.
