Sir Alex: ‘We failed Kagawa’

Manchester United legend, Sir Alex Ferguson, has admitted that the club failed midfielder, Shinji Kagawa.

The Japanese international has returned to his former-club, Borussia Dortmund, after failing to make an impact at Old Trafford after his £17million move in 2012, and he has already scored and set-up a goal on his second debut for the club.

Dortmund signed Kagawa for just £6m in the Summer, and manager, Jurgen Klopp, has revealed a conversation he had with Ferguson regarding the 25-year-old midfielder.

Kagawa only played 38 games for United and according to Klopp, Ferguson told him that he has to take some of the blame for how things went for the midfielder in England.

‘Shame we [United] didn’t manage this well so that it worked out for him [Kagawa]. We were satisfied in the first year,’ Ferguson told the German manager.

‘In the second year you usually make the next step but he didn’t manage to do it.’

‘We should have made it work.’
