Defender ready to commit to Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club will announce that Martin Skrtel has signed a new three-year deal at the club early next week.

The Slovakian has been deciding on his future, with his contract set to expire next summer, but after months of negotiations, it looks like the centre-back is happy to stay put at Anfield after agreeing terms with the club’s board.

First Offer Rejected

An initial contract offer was turned down by Skrtel because he deemed it unacceptable and was shocked that the Liverpool board even offered him it.

Skrtel was offered a pay-as-you-play deal, despite only being 30-years-old and still being a mainstay in their first-team.

The defender rejected the deal and talks resumed between the two parties.

Agreement Reached

However, it’s now reported that an agreement has been reached and a formal announcement from the club is expected to be made early next week.

It is a three year deal for the centre-back, meaning he will stay at the club until 2019.

It’s believed the contract will be signed next week once Skrtel returns to pre-season.
