Gary Neville has slaughtered Arsenal record signing, Mesut Ozil, and claims he hasn’t justified his price-tag since arriving last season.

The Gunners splashed £42million on the German international back in 2013, and despite a recent run of good form, Neville believes he has failed to live up to the expectations and has failed to give Arsenal their money’s worth.

Neville’s former team-mate, Paul Scholes, has already recently criticised the World Cup winner, claiming he’s a passenger and took the easy way out joining Arsenal, before Arsene Wenger laughed off the midfielder’s comments.

Backing up his former team-mate, Neville admitted that he hasn’t seen enough from Ozil to warrant his £42m price-tag.

‘Ozil was pushed out of Madrid and he has since struggled to be the game-changer that I believe a £42m player should be for Arsenal,’ Neville wrote in his Daily Telegraph column.

‘Although Arsenal fans often complain when I highlight Ozil’s shortcomings, my response is that I generally see him in the bigger games against the top opponents and he has not delivered.

‘In 22 games against Chelsea, United, City, Liverpool and Tottenham, plus Champions League appearances, he has scored just two goals.

‘It is not enough for a player of Ozil’s ability, he does not influence games as he should, but maybe Arsenal fans need to accept that it will take longer for the German to come good.’
