Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic believes Tom Cairney has the potential to represent England if he does choose to switch his allegiance in future.
There has been a number of instances when players have changed their preferred countries. Cairney came through the Scotland U19 and U21 setup but is yet to make his advances for the senior Scotland side as he has only two caps for them.
Cairney still has the chance to change his country as FIFA rule does provide him with an edge when it comes to switching countries. With the two appearances being in friendlies the 27 year old is still eligible to play for England as he was born on the UK soil.
He represented Scotland through his father roots but if he continues to be ignored he might opt for an alternative route. Jokanovic said, “He is definitely a quality player,
“His choice at the moment is Scotland but there is a possibility he could switch in another direction.
“I believe he is a useful player for many coaches. For me, he is useful for both the Scottish and English national coaches too.
“He showed his quality over the last few seasons. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t start this Premier League season with enough good luck, with this injury situation with him.
“Soon he will be in his highest level.”
