Saints set to sign Gabbiadini

Southampton have reportedly agreed a £17million fee for Italian striker Manolo Gabbiadini.

The forward, who has been capped for his country six times, has played for Atalanta, Bologna on loan and Sampdoria before joining Napoli in January, 2015, where he is now.

German sides Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach were also reportedly interested in the player, but Southampton seem set to beat both teams to the player.

The £16million fee will be a club-record, surpassing the £15million paid for Sofiane Boufal from French club Lille last summer.

The Saints have been keen to add extra attacking options to the squad before the window closes, after losing Charlie Austin to injury.Claude Puel’s side, who are 11th in the Premier League and in the final of the EFL Cup, are away to Swansea City on Tuesday.
