Southampton chase Kongolo

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is set to move for his former player Terence Kongolo as he looks to thwart Manchester City and Chelsea’s attempts of signing the defender.

Koeman, who managed the 22 year-old during his time at Feyenoord, is interested in continuing the trend of Dutch signings at St Mary’s he looks set to add another to his ranks in the form of Kongolo.

The versatile defender, who can play at both centre-back and left-back, has made 52 appearances in his four seasons with the Dutch side since breaking into the first team.

Due to his fine performances for the Eredivisie club, he has attracted interest from Premier League champions Manchester City and current league leaders, Chelsea. But, his former boss, Koeman, looks set to thwart their attempts by snapping up the two times capped Dutch international before his league rivals do.

The Swiss born defender has a brother who plies his trade at City’s academy already, but the Saints are favourites to land his signature.
