Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger has once again told duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez that they cannot leave the club this Summer.
The Saints have had an exodus of players leaving the club this year, with five first-team players leaving in order to join bigger sides in the Premier League.
Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers have all left for Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal respectively, and it was believed that Schneiderlin and Rodriguez would join them by going to either Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool.
Spurs were interested and reportedly close to signing both of them in a double-deal, but after Loic Remy’s proposed transfer to Liverpool fell through, The Reds showed brief interest in the currently injured striker.
Schneiderlin has also been monitored by Arsenal, but they seem to have dismissed any reports linking them with a move for the Frenchman.
The decision not to sell the midfielder was met with an angry response by the player on his Twitter account, as he tweeted that six wonderful years at the club have now been ruined, but Krueger has admitting that he nor Rodriguez would be willing.
“We’re not the kind of club that right off the bat is going to overreact,” Krueger said.
“The fact of the matter is there is a strategy in place and that we clearly have Morgan and Jay in the centre, as a core players of building this squad going forwards. That is our strategy and we’re going to stick with it. We are now on a building and not in a reducing phase.
“Very clearly we don’t communicate with our players in the public, so he was clearly informed of the fact we were not going to sell him. Immediately after that I communicated with the media about that and that is how we did it. Then he reacted (on Twitter).
“I think whoever reacts in certain ways, there is passion involved here and circumstances.”
