England manager Gareth Southgate has said that he will start Joe Gomez and Harry Winks against Spain. England play their third UEFA Nations League fixture against Spain at Seville today. Southgate has said that Gomez will replace John Stones who will miss the match due to suspension.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is also suspended for the match against Spain and Harry Winks will take his place in the starting XI.

Southgate said, “It’s probably pretty clear Joe Gomez will be coming in for John [Stones]. He’s in really good form for his club and his matches for us against Spain and Brazil have been really polished. He’s a young defender but he is a very good defender, good athleticism, uses the ball well. I’m looking forward to seeing him in this game. It’s another opportunity for us to look at younger players.

We’re slowly building a squad of players who are comfortable playing at the highest level.”

England are currently five points behind Spain in their group, having gained only one point from their draw against Croatia. They need to defeat Spain if they are to narrow the gap and stand a chance of qualifying for the Nations League finals.
