Sacking took place at Chelsea training ground

According to reports, the decision to sack Jose Mourinho as Chelsea manager was made in just ten minutes.

The Blues have had a horrendous season by their high standards, languishing perilously close to the relegation zone.

And not even qualification from the Champions League group stages could save the Portuguese manager.

The news of Mourinho‘s dismissal broke this afternoon, reportedly made at the club’s training ground.

Sky Sports claim that Mourinho was called in for a meeting at 2pm, and ten minutes later he was removed from his post by director Eugene Tenenbaum and Bruce Buck.

Official Statement

A Chelsea statement read: “Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today decided to part company by mutual consent. All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013.

“His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history.

“But both Jose and the board agreed that this season the results have not been good enough and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.

“The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea. His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.

“The focus now is on ensuring the squad reaches its potential. There will be no further comment until an appointment is made.”

Early indications show Guus Hiddink is the frontrunner to take over, at least on a short-term basis.
