Sterling set to pen new deal

Raheem Sterling is set to put pen to paper on a new deal at Liverpool after he was given assurances that Brendan Rodgers would not be sacked.

The 20 year-old is a key figure at Anfield and the club want to tie down the Englishman following reports that Real Madrid were interested in snapping up the forward.

But, Sterling is content to remain at the Merseyside club provided that Rodgers remains in charge. After a dismal start to the season, there were fears for the Northern Irishman’s job at the club he took charge of in 2012. However, chief executive Ian Ayre has backed his manager and thus provided Sterling with the reassurances he wanted so he can go ahead to sign a new deal with the club.

With the recent announcement of Steven Gerrard’s departure at the expiration of his current contract, and with Luis Suarez having left for Barcelona this summer, the 13 times capped English international has been tipped to go  and to become the centre point of Liverpool’s attacks.
