Steven Gerrard has lavished praise on his players after winning the Old Firm Derby.

Rangers won their crunch match against Celtic to end the year on a winning note.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has lavished praise on his players after they won the Old Firm Derby against arch-rivals Celtic. The only goal of the match was scored by Jack Ryan as the Gers got the better of Brendan Rodgers’ men in their own backyard. This win has brought both the Glasgow giants standing at the same number of points, with Rangers playing one match extra.

Speaking to the media after the match, the former Liverpool ace lavished praise on his players. He said, “I asked the players to deliver an A game. It was an A plus. The performance was really, really good.”

He added, “We wanted to play in a way where we were on the front foot. You can see over the past six months what we were trying to get to, which is to be aggressive and go and press teams, take them out of their comfort zone. I’ve watched Celtic for many years and we showed them too much respect in the first Old Firm game this season. If you show good players too much respect they can pass you off the pitch and they did for 45 minutes. Today we never gave them a second.”

Gerrard concluded, “We were on them, all over the pitch. We picked a team that was aggressive and they’ve delivered.”
