Stoke City are preparing an £8m bid for Rennes forward Paul-Georges Ntep.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are also said to be keeping tabs on the 22-year-old. Gunners forward Yaya Sanogo played alongside Ntep at Auxerre last season.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is aiming to surprise his rivals by striking early for Ntep, aiming to get a deal done as soon as possible after the transfer window opens.

Ntep, however, played down talk of a move from the French club.

He toldRMC: “Is my priority to stay at Rennes this winter? Yes, I’m happy at Rennes.

“When these things happen during the season, that’s when things can go wrong with the group, unless the club needs money…

“But I don’t think that is the case at Rennes.

“I feel very good in this group and we want to stay in the top half of the table.

“It would be very good to continue with Rennes.”

Ntep represented France at the Toulon Under-21 tournament last year, and is also eligible to play for Cameroon at senior level.
