Stoke hopeful of Diouf deal

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates is confident that his side will be able to complete the signing of Bundesliga forward Mame Birma Diouf, who has scored 35 goals over the past 3 seasons.

The former United man, who’s contract with Hannover expires at the end of the month, has been often linked with a move back to English football as Cardiff City were also reportedly interested.

The 26 year-old enjoyed an impressive three-season spell with the German side, scoring 35 goals but has declined a new deal with Hannover and is set for a move back to the Premier League.

Coates told BBC Radio Stoke“We’re hopeful that Diouf will be done,

“He’s the striker Mark Hughes wanted last year. We thought twice we’d got the deal done only for the deal to collapse, as it does in football.”

Coates also revealed that Stoke manager Mark Hughes is keen to wrap up the deal early in the transfer window unlike previous boss Tony Pulis who was known to leave deals late.

“We’ve got a few irons in the fire with other players,” Coates added.

“Tony Pulis had a preference for leaving things late. I wasn’t always sure he was right but that’s what he felt, so we tended to go down that path.

“Mark would rather do things earlier. They’re all different. The outcome is the important thing.”
