Gunners cruise to 3-0 win after emphatic second-half performance

Arsenal have bounced back from their Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday by thumping Swansea City 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.

All eyes were on the team-sheet as Arsene Wenger has to make changes to cover for injuries sustained to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott on Tuesday night.

It was Joel Campbell who got the nod on the right-hand side, and he repaid Wenger by scoring the third.

Match Summary

Despite the convincing story-line, the first-half was all Swansea and they should have gone 1-0 up when Bafetimbi Gomis was put through one-on-one with Petr Cech, but Hector Bellerin produced a stunning tackle to prevent the striker from scoring.

After that it was Olivier Giroud‘s turn to miss a golden opportunity after he was fed through by Alexis Sanchez, but instead of taking his time, he tried to curl the ball home first-time and ended up curling it over the bar.

The sides went in level at half-time, but it was Garry Monk‘s men who looked the better of the two sides.

However that all changed in the second-half and it was one-way traffic at the Liberty Stadium.

Giroud gave the Gunners the lead just four minutes into the second half, thanks to a header from a Mesut Ozil corner.

It was then Giroud’s countryman who doubled the lead as Laurent Koscielny bundled home after former-Gunner Lukasz Fabianski fumbled the ball.

Swansea were livid that a free-kick wasn’t given, but the referee saw nothing wrong in Koscielny‘s challenge.

The game was put to bed in the 73rd minute when Ozil found Campbell at the far-post, who thumped home his first Arsenal goal.

The win keeps Arsenal joint-top alongside Manchester City on 25 points, while Swansea sit 13th.
