England are to play Ukraine in Kiev on Tuesday night and look set to play without three of their first choice strikers.

Sturridge missed Fridays win over Moldova at Wembley after he aggrevated a thigh injury during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Manchester United last weekend. It was hoped the the striker would be fit for the game on Tuesday but it is now reported that he is unavailable to Roy Hodgson which givs him a dilemma travelling to Kiev.

‘The FA can confirm that Daniel Sturridge will not return to the England squad ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Ukraine on Tuesday,” said the FA in a statement.’

‘Club England medical staff have been in constant contact with their counterparts at Liverpool football club since he returned there on Thursday, his injury has not progressed as had been hoped and it is now clear that Sturridge will not be fit for the match in Kiev on Tuesday evening.’

‘No additions will be made to Roy Hodgson’s squad of 23 players who travel to Ukraine on Sunday evening,’ added the statement
.

Wayne Rooney has been declared unfit for both games after suffering a nasty cut to his forehead in a traning ground incident at Manchester United when Rooney and fellow teammate Phil Jones collided.

Danny Welbeck is unable to play as he is suspended, he picked up a yellow card for diving in England’s match against Montenegro and also recieved a yellow card for time wasting in the game against Moldova. Both yellow cards were extremely harsh and can be argued but Welbeck will still miss the Ukraine match.

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is likely to make his second start for England with James Milner replacing Welbeck on the left hand side of the pitch.
