Ex-Rangers striker speaks out

Ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes Daniel Sturridge must leave Liverpool in order to gain regular football.

Sturridge has started just 4 times this season for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and is currently out injured with a calf injury he picked up in November.

Klopp seems to prefer playing Roberto Firmino in the advanced forward role, but young star Divock Origi is doing a very good job there at the moment, scoring 5 goals in his last 5 games.

Boyd is in no doubt that the 27-year-old will be made surplus to requirements at Anfield in the new year.

“I don’t think there’s any question about how good Daniel Sturridge is as a player, but I think his time is up at Liverpool and he’ll have to move on to find regular football,” he told Premier League Daily.

“There’s no doubt he’s a talented footballer, but when somebody is coming in and scoring goals like Origi has, every time he has come in he has not let Liverpool down, it’s difficult.

“Does Klopp really fancy Sturridge? Even when he’s fit, he’s not played a lot of football.”

Sturridge has scored 57 goals in 103 matches for Liverpool, an impressive record. He has been linked with a move to West Ham.
