Liverpool star and PFA Player of the year Luis Suarez has revealed that he cleaned up his ‘bad boy’ acts in order to not embarrass his children.

The Uruguayan claimed he didn’t want to set a bad example to his kids, nor did he want them seeing his antics anywhere on the internet. Suarez realised he had to change when he was banned for 10 matches after biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic towards the back end of the 2012/13 season. He now claims that he is ‘120% different’.

“When you have children and family, you want to change for them because maybe in a few years’ time, your children can see on the internet what their dad was doing,” said Suarez, after receiving the Football Writers’ player of the year to go with the PFA version he won last month.

“I think it was a difficult time, but if you have people around you to help you and help the team, it is very good.

“I knew when I started this season that if I did nothing wrong, if I didn’t get involved with the referee and things like that, then people would not be able to say anything about me.”

“I am an easy guy off the pitch and on the pitch I knew I had to change because I love football.”

Suarez has proved his worth to Liverpool this season despite missing the first 6 games, scoring 31 goals in the league and winning the Premier League Golden Boot award with ease. The goals have made him hot property, with Real Madrid reportedly sniffing around and weighing up a move, but Suarez has pledged his future to Liverpool and Anfield.

“I signed a contract because I love it here and I am so happy here,” said the Uruguay international. “If you are not happy here, you do not sign a new contract.”
