Sunderland appear to be leading the race to bring former Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne back to England.
Mancienne, 26, wants to return to the UK after 3 years playing for Hamburg in Germany, and Sunderland are ahead of Stoke, Swansea, QPR and Championship-bound Fulham in the race to tie up a bargain £1million deal. Sunderland are confident a deal could happen as sporting director Lee Congerton has a history with the player, and will be recommending him to Guy Poyet.
With just 12 months left on his contract, Mancienne will be able to leave for a knockdown fee.
