The Black Cats want the midfielder on loan

Sunderland are hoping to sign Marco Van Ginkel on loan.

Dick Advocaat wants to bring in some more midfielders as he looks to strengthen his side in the middle of the park and the 22-year old is seen as an ideal signing by the Dutchman.

He would only be available on loan but Sunderland are more than happy to just take him until the end of the season. However, they do face competition from fierce rivals Newcastle, who have also been linked with a move.

Newcastle are also interested

An offer has already been made by the Black Cats and they are confident that they can beat Newcastle to a deal for the midfielder soon.

Van Ginkel – who spent last year on loan at AC Milan – has been at Stamford Bridge since 2013, although he has only featured for the current Premier League champions on two occasions.

He played 17 times for Milan last season, scoring once and bagging one assist. He played reasonably well during his time in Serie A and found his best form during his time as a central midfielder for the Italian side, rather than when he was deployed as a defensive midfielder.
